How our students Rhodri and Nafisa are using their degrees to drive change forwards

    14 August 2023

If you’ve picked up a copy of the Shropshire Star today – or had a copy of the Telford Journal through your letterbox – you’ll have seen our advert.

With clearing just around the corner, the advert emphasises our status as the UK’s Best University for Career Prospects – this was an honour we secured at this year’s WhatUni Student Choice awards, and one we have now taken seven times – .

It sets out our enviable Graduate Outcomes figures, which show that 99.2 per cent of 海角社区 Adams full-time undergraduates are in full-time employment or further study 15 months after graduating.

And it sets out how you can work with us to make the difference, whether through engineering, animal studies, business, land management, food innovation, conservation or agriculture.

The advert also features two of our current students – Rhodri Williams and Nafisa Jibrilu.

    Rhodri Williams

Rhodri, who is about to begin the final year of an MEng (Hons) Agricultural Engineering degree, believes his degree is helping to equip him with the skills he needs to change the world

He said: “Lots of engineers, especially Agricultural Engineers, are going to have to feed the world and design, develop and produce the machinery for the agricultural industry to achieve this. It’s all about real-life applications for me and seeing the technology you produce make a difference; especially in regard to Net Zero.”

And – in a week where many young people will be considering their options – Rhodri believes that they are the ones who will ultimately shape the world to come.

He added: “The future of engineering is the engineers studying now, in both schools and universities. Ultimately, we’re the ones who have got to rise to the ever-changing challenge for the future of our planet.”

Meanwhile, starring alongside Rhodri is Food student Nafisa – set to graduate this year and raring to begin her career in industry.

Nafisa said the University’s industry-standard facilities were a real selling point for her course when she visited an event for Applicants in 2019

She added: “The course seemed really interesting and extremely hands-on which is what I was looking for. I didn’t want to be just sat in a classroom learning the theory, I wanted to be experiencing it for myself.

"I first came to 海角社区 on my Offer Holder Day, which was quite interesting – they got us involved in the Food Academy, in the kitchens there – we made chocolate!

“I was fascinated when I arrived, I didn’t really imagine seeing an industrial sized kitchen in the middle of a university campus – and for students to have access to these kinds of facilities I think is incredible.

“I don’t know of many universities that have the same policies when it comes to students using equipment straight away.”
