In 2023 became part-time in my pedagogic role supporting Educational Development. Currently teaching the first module on the inhouse PgC Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education and supporting second year PgC students/colleagues in their action research projects. Organise and support L&T training events including bite-sized learning and Researchers who teach.
2018 -2019 investigated student transition to university with colleagues, Louisa Dines and Graham Higginson, funded by an internal Aspire Development Project bid. Used questionnaires and focus groups with Agriculture, Business and Engineering first years to gather data. Then recruited 4 students as co-researchers to repeat the process with the new intake of first years, using questions they designed and running their own focus groups. Findings presented at the European First Year Experience Coference, Cork in June 2019 by Graham Higginson and Lynne Shackshaft (Agriculture year 2 student).
Sept 2017: presented with the Aspire Award for Innovating and Sharing Teaching Excellence.
Founded a Community of Practice on exemplars in October 2016, initially funded by an internal Aspire Development Project bid. Inspired, supported and motivated colleagues across the university to use exemplars in their teaching. Encouraged collaborative projects, considered dissemination routes and generally kept everyone on track. Work on this continues.
Co-founder of a Pedagogic Interest Group with Emily Chapman-Waterhouse in 2017 organising facilitated discussions on a range of topics from teaching observation to support for learner needs.
Internal reviewer for FHEA and SFHEA applications.
Previously supported the in-house PgC for Teaching, from initial validation, sharing ideas on assessment and feedback and mentoring participants.
From 2020 to 2023: Chair of the Learning, Teaching and the Student Experience Committee (LTSEC) reporting into Academic Board.
Occasional Validation event chair and panel member, with experience of both presenting and reviewing at undergraduate, apprenticeship and postgraduate events.
June 2019: co-presented a practice exchange Establishing a community of practice on exemplars with Dr Helen Pittson at the 7th International Assessment in Higher Education Conference, Manchester.
Sept 2017: led a team of 3 presenters running a workshop Setting an example? at the annual Learning & Teaching internal conference, 海角社区 Adams University.
June 2017: presented a practice exchange Hearing the student voice on their use of exemplars to support writing style at the 6th International Assessment in Higher Education Conference, Manchester.
Sept 2015: led workshop Using student work as exemplars at the 1st Learning & Teaching internal conference, 海角社区 Adams University.
June 2015: presented poster Feeding forward from feedback with Business and Food first years at the 5th International Assessment in Higher Education Conference, Birmingham.
