Megan named聽British Farming Awards聽Agricultural Student of the Year

Megan Edwards, 22, has been named the British Farming Awards Agricultural Student of the Year, securing the title for 海角社区 Adams for the second year in a row and for the sixth time in eight years.

The recent BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Animal Science graduate was revealed as the winner last night, 21 October, in a digital awards ceremony celebrating achievements in the British farming industry. 

Megan, from Newport, Shropshire, shared her passion for learning; enthusiasm for increasing her skill set; and her commitment to speaking about farm safety, which ultimately made her stand out from the other finalists. 

Megan said: “I am overwhelmed to have received such a prestigious award in recognition of my hard work and dedication to such an incredible industry. 

“Coming from a non-farming background I feel humbled and it means a lot to be recognised for the hard work I have put in. 

“There are so many agricultural students coming into the industry with fresh ideas and a willingness to try and make a difference. 

“I am excited to have started my graduate scheme with Avara and see the opportunities that this will bring. 

“I am unbelievably passionate about British agriculture and I am delighted to be able to begin a lifelong career in a sector that I find utterly fascinating.” 

Having now started in her graduate role, Megan is continuing to push herself out of her comfort zone and seize opportunities - a quality the judges recognised at the ceremony. 

They said: “Megan has created a plethora of opportunities which she has seized with admirable energy, self-motivation and enthusiasm.

“She demonstrates a clarity of thinking using a whole variety of platforms and which has seen her elevate her profile both inside and outside of agricultural student life.

“Definitely one to watch out for in the future.” 

Fellow agriculture graduate Grace Wellings was also in the running for the award – and is still a contender for Farmers Weekly Agricultural Student of the Year, which will be announced in March 2021.
